Apr. 30th, 2000 - TENNESSEE REPEATS AS SELC CHAMPIONS

For the second time in the league's history, Tennessee has earned back to back SELC titles. Much like the others, the title was a difficult one to win with a three game weekend undoubtedly involving some of the best teams in the conference. Tennessee won 13-8 Friday night in a hard fought battle against the Vanderbilt Commodores. The next day, Tennessee faced long time rival Auburn in another close and emotional game that ended with an 11-9 score. Finally, Tennessee faced the only undefeated team in the league for the conference title. The game promised to be a great one as earlier in the season Virginia Tech narrowly defeated Tennessee at home 17-16. The promise was surely fulfilled in a heated battle that ended with the close score of Tennessee 16, Virginia Tech 14. The Volunteers now look forward to an automatic bid to the National Tournament in St. Louis, and the Hokies look forward to a near certain at-large bid.
